GREG KING

One of the joys of living in the San Juans is the close connection to history that is available here. Quietly walking the scenic English and American camps, peering across Haro Strait into Canada, remembering the “Pig War” - living in the islands provides a unique reminder of how the history of yesterday is present in life today.

Greg King’s family has been involved in community life on San Juan Island for over six generations. During these generations King family members have participated in many facets of life here on the island, as pioneers, farmers, doctors, and grocers. Such are the roots of the family tree that the permanent home for the San Juan Historical Museum is located in the 75-year-old homestead of James King.

It is within this tradition of community and service that Greg King now participates in the continuing development of island lifestyle and culture. Recognizing both the need to protect the island elements that provide for quality of life and the need to accommodate the demands that this quality of life has put on the real estate market, Greg’s historical roots and present day qualifications have uniquely positioned him to provide service to both the community and his clients.

Greg has a solid reputation of facilitating the development of difficult projects. In the current high demand market, financial resources are only part of the story when it comes to developing the best projects on San Juan Island. Also of critical importance is the ability to identify off-market land resources and engage in an artful process of trustworthy negotiation with historic owners that is often necessary to proceed forward with the most valuable development scenarios. Greg’s understanding of local priorities combined with his energy, creativity, family history and trustfulness uniquely qualify him to facilitate the difficult agreements that frequently prove to be most valuable to all parties involved, including the local community.

Recent years have found Greg involved in many challenging projects including the development of Edna Estates (a 10 lot, 45 acre life-style community), the purchase and renovation of a historic Friday Harbor inn which is now the home of Windermere, and numerous waterfront property divisions.

If you are interested in learning more about how you might successfully participate in the San Juan Islands real estate market, please don’t hesitate to contact Greg by email, phone, or if you are on island, feel free to visit him in person at Windermere Real Estate on Spring Street in Friday Harbor just up the street from the harbor waterfront.
